A new brand, a new website, ‘Brien Holden Vision’ will officially be launched at the 92nd annual meeting of the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) in Seattle.
Brien Holden Vision will develop pathways for advanced and beneficial products and services for those in need of vision correction and to detect signs of conditions that threaten vision, eye and general health. The new website – www.brienholdenvision.com – highlights the cutting-edge projects currently being undertaken.
Among these companies is Brien Holden Vision Diagnostics (formerly Quantum Catch), which is focused on the design, manufacture and sale of affordable, high-quality diagnostic medical devices. This includes an intelligent retinal camera designed to reduce the cost of detection, screening, and monitoring of diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and other diseases.
Visitors to the AAO will be invited to take part in the Brien Holden Vision Institute ‘Experience’, an engaging and interactive session that will give eye care professionals from around the world the opportunity to get a comprehensive overview about the Institute’s mission. The ‘Experience’ will take place on Thursday, October 24, 2013 from 7.15pm – 9.30pm in the Metropolitan “B” Ballroom at the Sheraton Seattle.
Professor Brien Holden, CEO, Brien Holden Vision Institute, and Dr. Tom Cornsweet, entrepreneur and inventor of the world’s first auto-refractor and Chief Scientist at Brien Holden Vision Diagnostics, will be on hand to discuss the launch of this exciting new enterprise. Professor Holden and Dr Cornsweet will also give updates on current products including the intelligent retinal camera.
Commenting, Professor Holden said: “Brien Holden Vision Institute has a clear mission. Our core activities means we can license the cutting-edge technology developed by our teams to commercial organisations, and then reinvest funds back to sustain and expand our work in our eye care programs around the world. This is definitely an exciting time for vision science.
“As well as raising awareness, a lot more needs to be done if we are to eliminate vision impairment and avoidable blindness,” Holden added. “Prevention is the key. At Brien Holden Vision, working with world experts, we hope to design, manufacture and distribute ophthalmic devices that will help shape the eye health landscape. Everyone, everywhere has the right to see clearly, the launch of Brien Holden Vision will help make this a reality.”
While the Brien Holden Vision Institute will continue to seek scientific rigour and technological solutions that can be applied at the local level to affect change in eye health and vision care delivery, the launch of Brien Holden Vision will bring together a group of commercial subsidiaries whose products and services fall into strategic categories:
- Vision care products – such as contact lenses and lens care solutions that improve health and vision, control myopia and correct presbyopia.
- Enabling technology – technology and / or products that detect eye and health problems to deliver better health and vision care at affordable cost.
- Social entrepreneurship – innovative, sustainable vision care delivery systems and facilities based on best-practice affordable vision care.
Brien Holden Vision, with headquarters in Sydney, Australia, will champion the development of new and better vision care technology and products. Through research and development, they will progress and work towards the early, effective and automatic detection of eye disease and general health conditions affecting the eye through a move to advanced and innovative affordable equipment.
