Mandurah to host EYRES Action Sports Games

ASG_Email_Banner-smallThis year Mandurah will again host the EYRES Action Sports Games and the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation [IWWF] World Cup for the second year running after proving itself a global event with fierce competition last year.

 

The IWWF World Cup is an annual global series with slalom, short board and big jump combined with wake boarding, barefoot jumping and waterskiing. Over 100,000 visitors turned out to watch the world’s best water sportsmen and women deliver thrills and spills at last year’s World Cup, the first of 4 to be held in Mandurah.

IWWF President, Kuno Ritschard, said the Federation is delighted to be returning to Mandurah this year. “It’s a wonderful town with perfect conditions for our event so it’s a pleasure to bring our elite waterski and wakeboard athletes to Mandurah.”

More than 150 of the world’s waterskiing and wakeboarding stars from 24 countries will make their way to Western Australia to contest the world title and their share of the $300,000 prize pool up for grabs.

Australian wakeboarding prodigy responsible for taking the sport to another dimension, Harley Clifford, is confirmed to compete and defend his title as 2011 and 2012 IWWF World Wakeboard Champion. Clifford will be a favourite to take hope the title for a third consecutive year after exciting the huge crowds last year with his formidable tricks. The games also coincide with the annual Channel Seven Crab Fest, adding more vibrancy and excitement to the City of Mandurah.

Asian Eye Banks honour LVPEI’s Dr G N Rao

The Association of Eye Bank of Asia (AEBA) presented its inaugural award for ‘Pioneering contributions to eye banking in Asia’ to Dr Gullapalli N Rao, Founder-Chair of L V Prasad Eye Institute.

dr-g-n-rao-lvpeiThe award was presented at the 3rd Asia Cornea Society Biennial Scientific Meeting held in Manila, Phillipines, from 27th to 29th November, 2012.

Dr Rao developed the first international standard eye bank in Asia at L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) in Hyderabad in 1989. The Ramayamma International Eye Bank at LVPEI is now one of the biggest eye banks in the world and LVPEI in Hyderabad reportedly performs the highest number of corneal transplants from any single centre in the world. In addition to service, the Ramayamma International Eye Bank is also one of the major training centres for eye banking personnel and research in the world.

Dr Rao was a member of the Medical Advisory Board of the Eye Bank Association of America, and had played a major role in the creation of the Eye Bank Association of India (EBAI) where he was also the former President. Through its activities, EBAI stimulated the development of a world class eye banking network in India, and helped in the development of many eye banks in Asia.

Vision-X 2013 will once again have the ‘Eye-Connect’ Hosted Buyer Programme that provides buyers the opportunity to meet the right exhibitors for their line of work.

Over 120 exhibitors and 3,900 visitors from more than 63 countries attended Vision-X 2012. The event’s organizers, Dubai World Trade Center, are hoping to increase this number substantially this year, and underline the fact that Vision-X is still the leading optical and ophthalmic exhibition in the Middle East. This year the event will be held between 9th and 11th April, 2013 at the Dubai World Trade Center.

 

Feedback from visitors at Vision-X 2012’s event was very favourable. 72 percent of these visitors rated the show as good to excellent, while 82 percent rated the quality of the exhibitors as good to excellent. Even exhibitors were happy with the response at Vision-X 2012 with 94 percent claiming that
they met their objectives for exhibiting at the event.

 

Poya Eghterafi, Executive Director of EGMA Optical Supplies revealed that his company concluded AED 8 million in sales during the exhibition in 2012, while Ahmad Hamou, Sales Manager-Optical Division at Al Amin Medical Instruments (Amico), estimated that his company achieved between AED 1.5 and AED 2 million in sales at Vision-X.

 

Buoyed by this response, Trixee Loh, Senior Vice President, Dubai World Trade Center and organiser of Vision-X Dubai said, “Last year’s event once again gave exhibitors and visitors an opportunity to learn about, and share, the latest technologies and trends in the industry.”
